Another one of the “stuff on the desk” style designs. These are getting kinda old, in my opinion, but if you do it with a new twist, like this one, it can still pull it off. I like this design because it gives you a new perspective of the “stuff on the desk”, you’re not just staring into one spot on the desk where there is a bunch of thing piled up on it, here you can actually look around the room, you have a nice plant over on the left side, you have a chair by the desk. The entire page looks like you’re in this office, a fly on the ceiling.

Sweater for a website background? That’s got to be the first one I’ve ever seen. Vincent Maglione of Big Sweater Graphic Design had an old sweater that was hanging around and so he decided to put it to good use. Very unique, I’ve got to say. I also like the tag looking design of the page.

It takes a lot of effort and real talent to design something that is so pleasing to the eye that it makes you want to just sit there and stare. This Human Rights Arts & Film Festival website is kinda like that for me. I really like the website design that use bright colors and include illustrations of nature. It really brings a site to life. The little snail moving along the top adds the cuteness element.

Labels, stickers, tags, stamps, postcards and other items that are known to be elements of travel surround this blog design, giving this blog an identity right off the bat, of a travel site. I also like the torn edges effect on the page.

I like this canvas background. I haven’t seen one like this yet. Site design goes well with it.

“Wow!”, that’s what I heard myself say when this site loaded. This is an example of a website design doing it’s job. It made an impression. The site is built in Flash to look like a mechanical contraption that displays information, with a robot looking creature moving levers and all.
Awesome job! Make sure you check it out.

Looking at my blog stats last night I found out that there are a lot of searches for the keyword “Vintage design” here. Michael’s main website’s design is very well done. I love the gray tones, the previously commented on logo, shadow and lighting effects. What an awesome design.

Yes, green web design, “that is ridiculous”, I thought and then I read this article, “Green Website Design and Eco-friendly Online Marketing” written by Barry Wise at Knol. He gives 10 things you can do to make your web design and online marketing better for the environment.
Here’s the list of things you can do to be a part of the movement, I’ll just summarize them and you can read more about them on their site.
- Work from home.
- Try to print as least as possible.
- If you need to outsource, or hire, do it locally.
- Install a wind, solar or other green power source to power your electronics.
- Create and use a library of code that you can reuse rather than recode it every time you need it.
- Design quality and plan for future, market it for long term (white hat).
- Design new, innovative websites, build greater usability and effectiveness.
- Inspire, reward, give bonuses to achieve certain benchmarks.
- Make sure you have plan for an efficient use of the budget. Plan website creation as well as marketing.
- Offer something of value for free, generate a social buzz.
Can you add anything to this list?
