I’ve had lots of positive comments about my logo over the past couple of weeks. Previously, I had only been including it on my invoices to customers while my website was being created. However, now that the site is done (thanks Valik!), I’ve received quite a few glowing comments on my logo. I also received lots of great reviews from the folks who are printing my business cards too (which, Valik also designed).
Anyhow, now that the shameless promotion is out of the way, I’d like to ask what you think of my logo! Send those comments in and let the fun begin!
After this, I’ll be putting up my website for review…I have some questions that I’d like to have outside input on to help me resolve them.
Thanks! ~~

This is shaping up to be a good week! I came across another logo that has some crest style leanings to it. The logo for Stuff and Nonsense has a definite crest look to it. I particularly like the sketched appearance it has to it. In some ways, it almost reminds me of something out of a comic book (which is cool). The color combinations and the non-glossy finish are also cool touches. It’s definitely a cool logo.
Their site is also very informative as well. Since Stuff and Nonsense is a web design studio, they feature many examples of their creative work. I would encourage you to spend some time perusing their site. Lots of good stuff! Enjoy!

It’s been awhile since we featured a crest logo. Honestly, they are hard to find! However, while visiting DesignEyedea, I found a link to Designchapel where I was pleasantly met with a crest style logo. Yay! So, check it out…it’s a great one. Also, take some time to look at their site because there is a great deal of good stuff there. Lots of inspiration!

While I was looking at various Graphic Designer websites, I came across the blog for Graphiceyedea and thought I would share it with you. I like the overall theme for their blog. I really enjoy their color theme. It’s calm, smooth, and very professional in its appearance. I also like their logo and the clever way the spell the name of their company. Their logo alone is a great display of their creativity which should definitely be appealing to potential customers.
Their main website is still being created. So, I’ll have to check up every now and then to see what the progress is. Once it goes live, perhaps I’ll review it here as well. I’m sure it will be well worth checking out!

Have you ever found yourself trying to remember lots of different things only to forget them later? I hate it when that happens. I’ve thought about carrying a mini voice recorder around to record thoughts, ideas, or a description of something that I saw, but it’s not practical. I often wonder how many things I ‘miss’ because I forget. As a web designer, it’s important to try and remember things that catch your eye or provide some sort of inspiration.
Evernote has come up with a clever way to assist people like me (and perhaps you too?). Evernote allows you to use your phone to record pictures, video or audio, it also allows you to capture information you have found on the Internet too. Once the information is captured, it makes this information accessible and searchable at anytime and from anywhere. Not bad!
So now, you can take a snapshot of a cool design, or record information you want to remember later on, and Evernote gives you the ability to retrieve it later on across multiple platforms. You can access the information from your desktop, phone, or Internet.
Check it out and let me know what you think of it. I’m going to give it a try.
**Also, I have to mention their logo as well. It’s a great, simple design. The elephant ties in perfectly with their tag line, “remember everything.” Elephants, excellent memories, they never forget…get it?! Anyhow, it’s a great logo. I hope Evermore catches on and finds itself useful to many, many people. It seems like a great idea.

Here is another nice example of a web 2.0 logo design from stuffable.com. I like the rounded letters.

Have you ever wondered about the inspiration behind some of the automotive logos? Some of them have a very long, rich history. This article at Neatorama goes into detail about quite a few different auto manufacturers and the evolution of their logos over the course of their company’s history. Some of these logos have undergone dramatic revisions (Audi) while others have only experienced minor changes over the years (BMW and Ford). I wonder if some of the logos designed by us will have the longevity that these logos have experienced? It’s an interesting thought…

In part of Starbuck’s revitalization plan, they chose to “go back to their roots” and run with their original logo design. Along with a host of other marketing plans, the choice to change from their iconic green logo is receiving mixed reviews. This should serve as a wake up call to anyone considering a logo change for their business. One of the vital components to a successful business is brand recognition. While the decision to go back to an old design isn’t a complete change, it’s still risky.
Personally, I think it’s a bad decision for Starbucks. To me, it further emphasizes the fact that they are a company that’s unstable. Yes, they’re big. Yes, they have iconic status. Yes, they can probably make big changes without it being too adverse to their bottom line. But, I still think it’s a bad idea. If they really want to “restore” goodwill with their customers, I’d recommend the following:
Get rid of the automatic machines. Retrain their staff to perform as real baristas on real, quality espresso machines. “Just say no” to button pushers.
Everyone hates the tall, grande, venti verbiage. They always have. How about small, medium, and large?!
Spend more time and effort putting together a better roasted, fresher tasting coffee. Quit wasting time on more ‘clever’ marketing schemes. Stop acting so ‘corporate’ and become real, local coffeehouses again.
So, as you can see…for me, it takes much more than changing a logo to get me to darken the door of one of the numerous local, Starbucks near me.
What’s your opinion about Starbucks’ choice to change back to an older version of their logo? Do you see their decision as a positive or negative one? I’d be interested to know…

Minimalist websites are refreshing in my opinion. Sometimes I get tired of looking at really busy, crowded websites. Recently we have featured several sites that would qualify as minimalist or simple in their design scope (for example, Karl Bennion Arts is an example of a classy, minimalist site). However, I found an article recently that lists 25 great examples of minimalistic sites. When I hit minimalist sites, my first reaction is “Ahhh, thank you for giving my eyes a break.” Several of the sites listed here evoked that response from me. Check them out! Let me know your opinion on minimalistic websites. If you have a particular favorite, please feel free to share it. I’d like to check it out!
