Wood Look Navigation And Images

Komodomedia

Wood look anyone? This website that belongs to Komodomedia has really nice wood theme going. It gives a warm cartoony feel. The navigation bar, the nice wood seal, the heading bars, all in wood. I also like the foliage that they have hanging here and there. Good illustration work.

SaimSolution

Here’s a nice little illustration I found this morning. Floral, colorful, clean. If you take a look at the page, it fits in nicely into the overall design.

Website Layout, Design, This is amazing!

NewConcept

For some more inspiration, here is a nice layout that is really “refreshing”. When this page opened up I was really impressed to see this. This design is perfectly ballanced out. The flowers illustration in the front is great, the little red hearts and the arrow pop and balance the page out with the red lettering on the right. The grays and the browns work great together. Also the glossy effect that spans across the information boxes. It’s a simple thing to do but what a ifference it makes. Little stripes detail in the heading boxes, the transparent feel of the info boxes is amazing.

Awesomely refreshing design!

Good Rules for Freelancers

26.jpg

Whether you freelance full or part time, it’s a great way to earn an income. However, there are certain guidelines that are good for every freelancer to remember. Freelance Switch has a great article called “26 Things that Could be Holding You Back from Freelance Success.” I encourage you to read the entire article. While every point may not be applicable for your particular situation, you may find a few points that are valuable to as you continue to work as a freelance designer.

Please let me know if you find a certain point very relevant. Perhaps we can expand on the point here at WDI and develop it into a larger article. Let us know!

New Favorite

it-looks-good.jpg

Ok, I found a new favorite! It Looks Good is a great site. Here’s what I like about it:

1. Hand drawn elements. This is always something I enjoy. I always like the way hand drawn elements look. I think they create an automatic ‘uniqueness’ for any site.

2. Unique Navigation Style. While it took me a couple of moments to find out how to navigate their site, I still like it. When I opened their site, I enjoyed the falling smiley faces. I knew something was up with the ‘dead faces’, but it took me a moment to realize that they were the navigation points.

3. It’s completely unconventional. Again, sites like this automatically rise to the top in my opinion.

There are some great elements of this site that are worthy of remembering. This one is a definite keeper!

Do You Use Xara Xtreme?

Sunday, April 20th, 2008

xara.jpg

I’m not real familiar with Xara and I’m wondering how many people out there use it and like it. So, let me know if you would please. For those of you in the same boat as I am, here is what Xara has to say about itself:

Xara Xtreme is quite simply the world’s fastest graphics software, with truly flexible illustration tools and revolutionary photo handling. It will form an integral part of your creative workflow, whether it’s vector drawings, DTP designs, photo compositions or Flash animations for your website.”

If you like it and use it…what do you find appealing about it and its functionality? As a designer, what is it about Xara that helps you in your work? Seriously, let me know your opinion on this program. I’m interested in it and before I dive into it, I’d like to get some feedback…positive and negative.

Thanks!

Ai Vault is an excellent resource for tutorials and information about how to effectively use Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. This is a treasure trove if you use these two programs on a consistent basis for graphic or web design. Here’s what they have to say about their site:

Not only will you find some great freebies (check out the “Free Friday Illustrations”), you can also purchase some really excellent brushes, vector packs, and other great stuff. I would encourage you to check in at Ai Vault frequently for new content and material to spur you on to greater creativity! We will also be diving into more of their information here in the blog as well. I think we’ll also do a feature about their logo too…it’s great!

Glossy Images and Buttons Design Effects Ideas

Saturday, March 29th, 2008

This is a final part of a 3 part entry. I’ve been talking about the three of my favorite web design elements on BitsAndPix.de website. I want to file them here for future inspiration.

Look at these clean looking images. The grays, greens and oranges are working great in this design. Notice the 3D look of the reflection or glossiness of each image. Very nicely done.

Part 1 - Fun logo
Part 2 - Text treatment
