Wood Look Navigation And Images

Komodomedia

Wood look anyone? This website that belongs to Komodomedia has really nice wood theme going. It gives a warm cartoony feel. The navigation bar, the nice wood seal, the heading bars, all in wood. I also like the foliage that they have hanging here and there. Good illustration work.

This One is Definitely a Favorite

Have I said before how much I enjoy earth tones? Ha…just kidding, of course I’ve said it once, or twice…maybe three times. Well, it’s true.

The Bright Creative website is wonderful. I look at it and I just say, “ahh…that’s so nice.” Warm color combinations, smooth transitions, classy background textures all make it pleasing to my eyes. There isn’t anything harsh or abrupt about the design anywhere. Everything is subtle and smooth. Thank you Dave Shea for making such a great looking website. I appreciate it!

Floral Illustration

SaimSolution

Here’s a nice little illustration I found this morning. Floral, colorful, clean. If you take a look at the page, it fits in nicely into the overall design.

Awesome Artistic Website

Another reader suggested we check out Toucouleur’s website. Incredible! Very artistic, very creative. I especially like the way the ‘canvas’ is torn back to reveal the RSS feed button over on the right hand portion of the screen. I also like the paperclip and strips of paper effect too. It has a sort of grunge look about it.

It’s very well done and should provide loads of inspiration to other designers. Thanks for sending us the link!

**One caveat, it does take some time to load initially…but, it’s worth it!

Great Rugged Website Header & Logo Design

Tuesday, April 15th, 2008

Another excellent example of great design, over at SMC Design. The whole header and the logo both look awesome. Real elements together with digital illustrations were used in this composition that were tastefully brought together to make this impressive website design. I love the gray navigation with the withered away lettering and the stamped logo on a piece of cloth. I should also point out how the page pops thanks to the container design with the rounded corners, very good use of shadows and background colors and designs.

Easier Way To Create an Illustration

Wednesday, March 12th, 2008

Creating an illustration from scratch is not easy but when you have a nice photo to start from it’s much, much easier. PSDTuts has a great tutorial on how you can create that illustration with ease.

Another Simple Design with Creative Navigation

Tuesday, March 11th, 2008

This site is similar to the Art in Hong Kong site in that it has quite a bit of ‘hand drawn’ effects incorporated and it has non-traditional site navigation. This site isn’t finished yet, but with what is completed, you can get a good sampling of the creative concepts behind what he is designing with this site.

I also really like the overall simplicity. It has lots of open space with texture. It has a very neat and clean look…”understated simplicity.” Here is the site: http://www.bradkayal.com.

Interesting Site Navigation

Monday, March 10th, 2008

I came across this site last night for Art in Hong Kong and thought it merited mention. I like the way their home page combines elements that appear to be hand drawn and the use of Flash technology. The overall appearance has an artsy feel to it along with a three dimensional twist. When you add in the movement in the scenes, it creates a very unique looking home page. I especially like the menu tab on the left side. This is a simple site navigation set up. When you mouse over the word ‘Menu’ it opens up to allow you to select your destination. I like it!

Art in Hong Kong

This is certainly unconventional, but it’s very eye catching. This is definitely something to file away for those web design customers who are requesting a site design that stands out in a crowd!

Inspirational Designer Portfolio

Talented Designer

This guy, Matthew is the owner of the website design portfolio and blog at 0at.org, that’s zero-not-an-o-at.org. I’ve known this guy for a long time from seoMOZ.org, he used to do a lot of web design, programming and blog posting there (I’m a regular reader over there). I’ve never actually seen any of his other work and recently I found his blog where he has his past work posted. It is amazing! It’s not just the design, it’s the talent, you can see it. Lots of color and contrast, Web 2.0 ‘ish. You’ll just have to go look at it yourself. Here is a clip of his Portfolio:

You really got to see the actual images to appreciate. We all can learn a thing or two from this work. It’s been inspiring for me. He uses Macromedia Fireworks to illustrate his art.

Here is my favorite design from his portfolio:

This was a design for his blog that he later redesigned to what it is now.

Enjoy.
